Emily DeBray Biography

 

Emily was born 3 months premature.  Weighting in at only 2lb. 6oz. she came here a fighter. She is a product of many prayerful people, God's mercy, and the efforts of the NICU at Baptist here in Montgomery.  She has always been active in the cause for promoting the abilities of the disabled.  She was Pike County's March of Time's poster child when she was six years old. Because of her efforts at a young age she was awarded along with her family, Family of the Year for Pike County

Emily was born in
Dothan Alabama. Soon after we moved to Troy Alabama where she lived until she was in the tenth grade.  She attended Little Big Top Day school at the age of four. My husband and I felt it was important that Emily be main streamed into the able-bodied world.  From the beginning it was a fight to educate people that Emily belonged in their world.  God bless Emily with not only a winning personality but intelligence.  When she was to enter her Jr. year in High School her family moved to Montgomery and Emily finished out her High School years at Alabama Christian Academy in the top ten percent of her class. That year it was announced at graduation that they had never been a class with so many 4.0 GPA's to graduate from ACA.  Emily was one of the top in her class involved in many clubs as wells drama and choirs as extra activities. Emily went to Auburn University and majored in Psychology and minored in Spanish. She graduated in 3 1/2 years once again at the top of her class. She then went on to receive her masters in Psychology at Auburn University Montgomery where she now teaches two nights a week introduction to Psychology.  She graduated with a 4.0 in the field.  Emily works as a family advocate and as an adjunct professor for AUM. Her goal is to teach at the college level full time.

Emily is a determined, hard-working and caring person.  She volunteers for several organizations and causes. Her platform is Accessibility for those who have a disability. Emily was born with Cerebral Palsy.  

She has a passion for public speaking and educating the able-bodied world of the need for accessibility.  Emily enjoys public speaking, teaching, helping individuals with disabilities locate community resources, watching movies, going to the theater and football games.

Emily has a passion for leading by example a Christian life.  Showing others what the Lord has done for her.  He made her with a purpose in mind and He's love as planted in His care.  She believes all things are possible through Him.
